Competence center for wiring harness production

The pre-assembly of cables is mostly fully automatic, thanks to the latest machines and equipment. However, assembly on laying boards is still done manually, which is not least decisive for the price level. In order to be able to realise attractive prices nevertheless, our cable harnesses and cable sets are produced not only in Germany but also in Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia and North Africa. Depending on the requested quantity and complexity, we select the appropriate production location – your contact person will always be us in Germany.

If required, we also integrate preassembled cable harnesses into complete assemblies so that our customers can obtain ready-to-install systems. The advantage of having only one contact person is obvious.

From wiring harnesses to ready-to-install systems

An essential part of our corporate philosophy has always been the endeavour not only to supply individual parts to our customers, but also to develop and manufacture ready-to-install systems and to supply them in line with their requirements. In recent years, we have also successfully dealt with the related technologies – Plastics Technology and Metal Working– in addition to cable harness production, so that today we are able to develop ready-to-install systems according to customer specifications and to produce them in series. It is always a special challenge to realize individual products even in small and medium quantities (annual requirement < 1,000 pcs.). Examples of successfully implemented projects can be found under Component Assembly.

Challenges in cable assembly

Cable assembly refers to the development and production of ready-to-install cables, cable sets and cable harnesses. The following challenges, among others, arise in this process:

  • Variety of variants and modularization of wiring harnesses
  • Heat generation of electrical components
  • Country-specific fire protection regulations
  • Mechanical wear and strain relief

  • Mountability
  • Less installation space
  • Bending radius
  • Weight of the wiring harness

The importance of cable assembly in today’s world

FAQs

What is the difference between a wire harness and a cable assembly? ›

The difference between cable assemblies and wire harnesses is that cable assemblies create a path from one point or circuit to another, while wire harnesses connect several points or circuits with multiple breakouts running in different directions, serving multiple functions with multiple terminations on each breakout.

What is a wire harness assembly? ›

A wire harness is a specially designed system that keeps numerous wires or cables organized. It is a systematic and integrated arrangement of cables within an insulating material. The purpose of the wiring assembly is to transmit a signal or electrical power.

What is the purpose of a wiring harness? ›

The purpose of a wire harness is to organize individual wires into a single unit to efficiently transmit electrical power and signals. A wire harness reduces labor time and potential for human error, enabling technicians to fit complex wiring assemblies into small or hard-to-reach spaces.

What is a wiring harness job description? ›

In this role, you may assemble and cut harnesses based on provided designs, install these harnesses in the designated locations, inspect components to ensure they are correct, and perform other tasks like soldering when necessary. You also repair damaged harnesses, including those located in hard-to-reach areas.

What is another name for a wiring harness? ›

A cable harness, also known as a wire harness, wiring harness, cable assembly, wiring assembly or wiring loom, is an assembly of electrical cables or wires which transmit signals or electrical power.

Where are wiring harness assemblies used? ›

Cable harnesses and assemblies are used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and telecommunications. Cable harnesses and assemblies are used to bundle and organise electrical cables and wires in a neat and secure manner.

Is wire harness assembly hard? ›

Assembling such cables with connectors requires high levels of skill and is most time -consuming. It involves pairing the cables with appropriate connectors and fixing the complex wiring structure inside the automobile. The task of installing wire harnesses in car bodies has traditionally been difficult for robots.

What are the different types of cable harnesses? ›

Some of the most popularly used wire harnesses are flat harnesses, ribbon harnesses, EMI shielded harnesses, RF harnesses, airborne looms, and military looms. You can choose to have a particular kind of wire harness, based on your application, and the required performance and stability.

What is a cable assembly? ›

Cable assemblies are groups of cables which are arranged into a single unit for a particular purpose. Cable assemblies are also referred to as cable harnesses or wiring looms. These cables are grouped together in precisely the required length and orientation in order to make installation easier and quicker.

What happens if your wiring harness is bad? ›

Lousy wiring can lead to dead batteries. And it's possible that the battery isn't over and perhaps showing a charge, but it just can't keep its head. The system can't distribute the power in the car if the battery is dead or isn't performing correctly. Further, you may suffer from bad experiences.

What is the disadvantage of wiring harness? ›

Poor wire harness contact

The bad connector of wire harness assembly is a common failure mode of the engine wire harness. Too many bad contact problems occur in the connector, such as poor sheath quality: poor assembly process, unreasonable coating setting, terminal oxidation is one of the reasons.

What is the difference between wire and cable and harness? ›

A wire is a single strand of material that conducts electricity. Harness assemblies manufacturer usually make these out of aluminium or copper. Cable assemblies are a group of cables or wires that are wrapped in an outer layer of a different product to keep the cables together.

What is a wiring harness technician job description? ›

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Perform repairs, fabrication, modification and installation of electrical wiring harnesses, cables, wires, wiring assemblies and associated parts for electrical ground support equipment and flight hardware. Read and interpret work instructions, schematics, wirelists and drawings.

What is the job description of a harness operator? ›

The individual makes a wire harness assembly by cutting, stripping and crimping wires and then soldering, connecting, taping and labeling them on a laying board as per the design specifications. This is followed by testing the components of the assembly.

What is the process of wiring harness? ›

The process of producing harness wire consists in precise connection of cables with terminals and insulating elements in a way that allows current to flow from one point to another. This process may include connecting wires with connectors, soldering, gluing, crimping or using other methods of connecting wires.

What is the difference between a wire and a cable? ›

While the terms wire and cable are often used interchangeably, technically a wire is one electrical conductor and a cable is multiple conductors, or a group of wires, encased in sheathing. Electric wires are typically made of aluminum or copper.

What does the cable assembly carry? ›

Cable assemblies hold/organize electrical wires safely, making them useful for a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. They're used in mass production to save time during the assembly of machines/equipment.
